A bit about Tale:

Entlebucher, TaleTale is one of the cuddliest dogs I have ever owned but is also an excellent watchdog. If people she doesn't know come onto our property, they would never think she could be cuddly! She has a large bark for a "short dog." If you are "chosen" to be in her group she squeals like a pig when you come to see her! And of course you are coming to see her and not her mistress (we will let her think that).

She loves to do Agility; actually Agility is tough for her because she has to go so slowly!!  She is a very strong and athletic girl, and is also very bright to train.  She has done very well in competitive Obedience; we have earned her Companion Dog Excellent title, are trialing in Open and training in Utility.  At one of our obedience club trials, we won two trophies: Top Herding/Working Dog, and Highest Scoring Club member.  In 2005, Tale was the No. 1 Entle in CKC Obedience in Canada.  I am the Training Chair for NEMDA and am looking forward to sharing with everyone what great dogs Entles are!

Tale, with six year-old Cody
Tale is wonderful with my son Cody.  The two of them play together and she is very tolerant of his ten year-old boy antics.

April 2004 - cooling downShe loves to play ball. Often we go into the field so I can hit a ball with a tennis racket, which is much easier than throwing it.  Even so, Tale will still want to retrieve long after I've decided we've had enough.  She seems to have two speeds: go really fast and stop!  After a good run she climbs into the trough to lie down and cool off!

Keeping them nicely togetherShe loves to be near me and comes with me when I go out to do chores.  Like a good herding dog she really wants to get in and herd our cows, and will duck into their pasture for a moment before I order her back out.  In May 2004 we attended a herding clinic and Herding Instinct Test on Vancouver Island with Lynn Leach from Downriver Farm in Laidlaw, B.C. Tale earned her HIC (Herding Instinct Certified) title and had a great weekend working Lynn's sheep.

"Way to Me"

Tale earned her Canine Good Neighbour (CGN) certificate (Canada's version of the Canine Good Citizen test) August 2005.

Tale, Rompin' in the snowTale and I took some conformation handling classes and competed in our first Sanction match in March 2004.   Being the only Entlebucher she won Best of Breed, but she went on to win Group 1 by beating all of the other Working breeds!  In May 2004 we competed in our first CKC conformation show in at Tyee in Mill Bay.  Three other Entlebuchers were there, including Riley (the sire of Tale's 2004 litter), Bronte owned by Jan Vincent from the U.S. and Sassy owned by Coral and David Dennis from Qualicum Beach. Although we didn't do as well as at the Sanction match, we did take home some ribbons, but best of all got to share time with other Entle folks!

In May 2005 we competed again at the Tyee show and Tale brought home Best of Breed wins.  In 2005, Tale was the #2 Entle in Canada in conformation according to the Dogs in Canada point system.

As we strongly believe in optimum health for our animals, Tale will have blood titres taken to measure her antibody levels for diseases like Parvovirus and Distemper before she is vaccinated. We also feed a natural, raw food diet, but she often likes to bury her chicken pieces in our yard before she eats them!

Tale with snow on her head! Our dog boarding and daycare business Pet Pampering is on the same property as our farm.  For a while we fostered a wonderful black Lab named Toby, and while Tale was definitely the boss, she a great time playing with him.  He too, was very fit, and the two of them loved running in the fields. They also had fun in the snow when we had a brief snowfall.

Tale & Toby - fun in the snow

Tale is everything I hoped for in a breeding dog - both in her great temperament and conformation - so I was thrilled when her DNA test stated she is not a carrier of Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).  Breeding structurally sound, healthy dogs is very important to me, so I am really looking forward to watching her first litter grow up!

Tale's first litter was born August 14, 2004.
Her second litter was born November 1, 2007.
